Evodos reduces energy consumption of algae harvesting with factor three!

The next generation Evodos production machines reduce the energy consumption to harvest algae with a factor three. Tests show an energy consumption of 0,7 kWh to harvest 1 kg algae (dry weight). This is equivalent to only 12.5% of the energy contained in the algae (dry weight). And notice: the algae are harvested without extracellulair water.

Marco Brocken, director of Evodos: "This breakthrough is of key importance to the algae industry where harvesting was seen as expensive and energy consuming. Evodos is proud to aid in a sustainable way - no chemicals and low energy consumption - to this topic. Furthermore it tells a story about the possibilities of Evodos in other applications and industries".

The energy reduction is possible with the next generation Evodos machines. In these machines the Spiral Plate Pack is doubled and the number of vanes has increased. Aslo these machines are fully automatic. These machines are in production and delivered to the market in several industries.

The energy consumption is measured with a feedflow of Nannochloropsis with a concentration of  3 kg (dry weight) per m3.
