Questions & Answers
1. What algae species have been tested so far?
We tested on Nannochloropsis and have machines running continuously on a mix of:
- Scenedesmus obliquus
- Scenedesmus dimorphus
- Scenedesmus quadricauda
- Maesotaenium sp.
- Chlorella sp.
- Ankistrodesmus sp. (probably falcatus)
- Tetraedron sp. (probably minimum)
- and some others yet unidentified
2. What are the contents of total suspended solids (TSS) in the suspension?
The feed flow concentration is of non-importance for the technology, however since Evodos needs ~ 0,95 kWh/m3 feedflow (independent on DW), the energy demand per kg (DW) may grow if the concentration is very low.
3. How much energy is needed to dewater 1 m3 of suspension? How much energy is necessary for the dewatering, how much for the drying?
To process 1 m3 of water, Evodos needs ~ 0,95 kWh. This includes removal of about 97% of the extra-cellular water. The algae are concentrated to a paste consisting of non-damaged algae. The cellular water remains in the algae. Evodos does not include further thermal or other drying.
4. Is the energy consumption species dependent? If so, how much is the species specific dewatering energy use (for 1m3 of suspension)?
We have not found any species-dependent change in energy consumption. Please bear in mind that the energy for accelerating minus decelerating of the water mass is huge compared to the energy for moving the algae-mass.
5. What is the capacity of the system in m3 of suspension per hour?
Evodos provides systems with capacity ranging from 0,75 m3/hr to about any industrial required capacity. To give an indication, our largest systems are in design currently and will cater for a 100 Ha plant.
6. What's the lifetime of the units (by what capacity and algae species)?
Bearings have an estimated life time of 20.000 hours or more. Then they need to be replaced.
The machines are built out of SST 316L. We make Capex and Opex estimates based on 10 years financial depreciation. With normal maintenance the machine may remain in operation much longer.
7. What are the operational costs of the system?
- Energy usage: 0,95 kWh/m3 feedflow
- Consumables: none
- Parts for maintenance: dependent on machine type. An indication is 3% of the investment.
8. What are the costs of the system?
The basic Evodos Type 10 has a price tag of € 43.500,-- ex VAT ex Works. For larger units the price is on demand.
9. Would it be possible to borrow/rent the system for scientific tests?
Once you have experience in working with an Evodos machine you will understand the true benefits of this radically new centrifugal technology. Then it will be absolutely clear that the separation process is highly effective at only 3.000G without using chemicals or flocculants, what the benefits of a smooth and dry discharge are and how easy the maintenance of these machines is.
In order to release the barrier of becoming a dedicated Evodos user we have constructed a matching pricing scheme.
- The price of the Evodos type 10, two-phase plug & play unit is 43.500 Euro.
- When you provide your certified test results for publishing by Evodos you will be reimbursed 1.000 Euro per test with a maximum of 4.000 Euro.
- When within 4 months you decide that the Evodos centrifugal is not suitable for your mixture or process, then Evodos will take it back for 31.500 Euro.
- When within 4 months you decide that you would like to apply Evodos centrifugals in your process, then Evodos will take it back for the original price upon delivery of your larger Evodos unit.
This pricing scheme makes it possible for you to try the Evodos machine in your own environment at your own pace. It gives you the opportunity to try it 4 months for only 8.000 euro.
The Evodos type 10 uses the same Spiral Plate package as the larger Evodos type 25 unit. So your test results can be extrapolated to an application with higher feed flows.
All prices are excluding VAT and are Ex Works The Netherlands.
This offer is valid for one type 10 machine per customer and until December 31, 2012.
