Energy from Fish Waste

The Dutch company A.van de Groep & Zonen B.V is a wholesaler in fish and fish-related products. One of the objectives of this company is to use the entire fish and to eliminate the waste stream. For that purpose it deploys a digester installation which is fed with fish waste.

The fish waste is picked up throughout the Netherlands. collects fish waste in several streams. The clean cuttings, fishbone etc. are frozen for further processing in cosmetics and animal feed. Another stream is waste water from fish filleters and liquid contents of fat traps including the deposits. This waste mixture is fed in a biogas reactor. This will generate methane gas. A traditional gas engine transforms the methane gas into green electricical power.

The installation provides energy that is used for the cooling the fresh fish. The liquid waste stream of the digester still has a high energy value.
