(1) Evodos benchmarked against Stacked Disk Separators
Evodos outperforms stacked disk separators on the following items:
Dry discharge:
Evodos does not need water/liquid to discharge the solids. Before discharging the water (or other process liquid) is pumped out of the drum which contains the solids. This results in a dry discharged cake composed of solids. The only liquid which remains in the cake is a minimum water between the compressed particles and if the particles are organic, the water in the cells itself.
Separation sharpness:
Evodos gives a Higher Trennscharfe at the same G-force. Evodos outperforms mainly since it uses a Y-flow versus a counter flow and because the fall speed is much lower. The fall speed (the distance which a particle has to travel in the direction of the centrifugal force, dividing by the delay time) in Evodos is only 2.4% compared to a Stacked Disk Separator.
Abrasive particles:
No wear due to soft discharge of abrassive and sharp particles. Separators do wear heavily in the discharge nozzles and/or seals.
Greasy/sticky particles:
Evodos takes out fatty/sticky/greasy particles without parts being clogged.
Soft solids:
Evodos separates soft solids.
Waterlock:
For oil clarification a separator needs a waterlock. Evodos not.
Interface level:
Evodos has a self adjusting interface by design. Therefore Evodos is independent of mixture, viscosity and temperature.
Energy consumption:
Evodos is factor 5-10 more energy efficient.
Maintenance:
Evodos outperforms. Maintenance is much lower since the G-force is a factor 4 lower.
(2) Evodos benchmarked against Decanter Centrifuges
Evodos outperforms decanter centrifuges on the following items:
Separation sharpness:
Evodos gives a Higher Trennscharfe at the same G-force. Evodos outperforms mainly since the settling distance is much smaller. Therefore the fall speed (the distance which a particle has to travel in the direction of the centrifugal force, dividing by the delay time) in Evodos is only 19% compared to a Decanter Centrifuge.
Abrasive particles:
No wear when processing abrassive and sharp particles. Decanters wear significantly on the conveyor screw.
Greasy/sticky particles:
It easily takes out fatty/sticky/greasy particles without clogging.
Soft solids:
It easily separates soft solids.
Chemical usage:
No need to add flocculants/chemicals.
Interface level:
Self adjusting interface and therefore the process is independent of mixture, viscosity and temperature.
Energy consumption:
Evodos is factor 2-5 more energy efficient.
Maintenance:
Evodos outperforms since there are no moving parts.
(3) Evodos benchmarked against Pressure Filtration
Pressure filtration technologies such as belt and filter presses require added chemicals and are labour intensive. The chemicals do add not only to the cost of processing but also in the discharge of the separated solids. Furthermore the chemicals cause structure changes in the water and/or solid component.
In many cases the mixtures can be processed with Evodos with minimal labour and without all negative aspects of chemicals.
(4) Evodos benchmarked against Gravity & Vacuum Filters
Vacuum drumfilters do require considerable chemicals as well with similar disadvantages as for pressure filtration.
With Evodos the mixtures are processed without chemicals.
(5) Evodos benchmarked against Gravity Sedimentation
Gravity sedimentation processes require installations with large tanks for separating the mixture. The separation process again requires added chemicals. The solids are discharged as a slurry.
With Evodos the footprint can be minimised dramatically without specific requirements for the foundation. As Evodos processes without chemicals, the benefits of not using and discharging chemicals are clear. Lastly Evodos produces the separated solids in a compact concentrated manner versus a slurry. This reduces the quantity of the separated solids considerably. When this needs to be discharge or transported, the cost benefits are considerable. We estimate that Evodos is the better proposition specifically where the separated material has high discharge costs.
